TOOLS OF RECKONING
SOLO EXHIBITION
TEMPORARY GALLERY
11-13 JUNE 2026
Tools of Reckoning is a series of drawings created in response to rape and sexual violence against women. In these works, familiar items like scissors, iron, knife are reimagined as symbolic instruments of confrontation and accountability, transforming everyday tools into tools of reckoning.
By placing the body in direct relationship with these altered household objects, the drawings create moments of discomfort and confrontation. Familiar items shift from passive tools into charged symbols that question silence and complicity.
These works came as an urge — and they stay that way. Images were build using coloured pencils, acrylic and oil pastels. Through repetition and pressure, without being precious about the marks, they translate rage, grief and defiance into a visual language that makes women's pain tangible. They are not reworked or embellished, remaining close to the first sketch, the first instinct. The colours are bright, meeting the intensity of releasing what had long been suppressed.
Throughout the series, women’s hands appear as recurring forms, acting as symbols of both vulnerability and resistance. They press, cut, and transform — reclaiming control over narratives shaped by silence and fear. The male body, particularly the penis, is fragmented or altered. These gestures are not acts of revenge, but attempts to make visible the physical and emotional suffering that is often ignored or denied.
Tools of Reckoning centres on reclaiming the body and giving visual form to what often resists language. The work invites viewers to witness the human cost of rape and to reflect on silence, accountability, and the power of confronting what is often left unseen.
